Season 20 - Week 21

[7:20]  Chess:  "C-A-N-'-T" is the one word you can't say in this

house.

Oh the irony.

[7:35]  Early in the night blinds are still just 75-150 and the flop comes K-K-7.  I look down and see a K-sumpin.  I put out a small bet cuz I'm still learning this King thing and Mike (why is it always Mike these days?) calls.  I hate the call, and feel like he's already on a boat and just setting me up.  Turn comes a 6 and check check.  River comes a 4 and I actually get a sliver of hope that I might be ahead, so I bet out.

Mike:  "Make it 4000."

Bish.

This is not good, just fold, you're behind and you know it.  It's early don't be stupid.  But yeah, good point, it's early.  Early enough for a re-buy.  Why not.

I'm probably not the only one to have that internal conversation, but in the end I end up calling for about half my stack and Mike does indeed show a boat, but made not with pkt 7's which I sort of put him on, instead pkt 6's made on the turn.  Hmmm, plot twist.  End result is the same though, more chips for Mike.

[8:12]  Chess:  "I only have 3 rules."
Scott:  "And one of those is never get in a hand with Mike?"
Chess:  "Yes.  Unless the evil being tells me to."
Scott:  "Cool.  Wait, is that one or two rules.  And 'evil being'?"
Chess:  "I can't tell you the other two."
Scott:  "I wouldn't ask.  Unless the first rule is Jeena is always right."
Eric:   "Well she was wrong at least once."  (Pointing at Chess.)

The final table came at 8:47, probably a record for earliness.  Unfortunately I was out not much after that so do not have much else to report, other than the results.

Charlie pulls in the win for Week 21 of this, the 20th season of the BPC, and like any win at this point it's a biggie, moving him up from 9th to 4th place and just 5 points out of 2nd and 15 out of 1st.  Congrats Charlie!

Kurticus nabs the 2nd spot and boy did he ever need it.  Kurt has been bobbing around the bubble spot all season, but this strong finish moves him up to 5th and provides some significant cushion.

Jeena continues on her hot streak with a 3rd, her 6th pointing in the last 9 weeks.  She passes Padma and moves into 2nd place, just 10 points out from overall leader Mike.

Jeremiah has had a quiet season, but as mentioned he's always been a late-season player.  Not that he hasn't done well early in the season as well, it just seems like he's always finishing strong while others (like me) go to sleep.  With this week's 4th place finish he moves up a spot into 11th, and is only 5 points out of the Top 9.  You gotta get the sense that it's just a matter of time for him to claim his spot.

Mike gets yet another pointing with a 5th, and Chester was the Bubble Boy, keeping us at Defcon 4 for now.

Season 20 - Week 20

[7:30]  Blinds are at 75-150 and Allan U raises to 600.  Table folds

all around to Mike who thinks a bit and calls.  Flop comes 2-2-7.  Mike bets out and Allan U goes over the top for a full 5000.

"Damn, is my 7 no good?" - Mike
"Whatever." - Garage

Allan U doesn't believe it either but somewhat reluctantly calls for the rest of his chips when Mike re-pops it.

Mike shows A-2 clubs for a flopped set and Allan U shows pkt J's.  No help comes and it's an early re-buy for Allan U.

[7:52]  Amir raises his big blind after the flop.  Kurticus shoves.  Mike re-shoves.  Dang that's cold.  Amir squirms a bit and folds.  Kurt shows A-8 for an open ended nut flush draw.  Mike shows K-4 spades flush, which holds up.  Mike on top again, raking in about a 10,000 chip pot.

[8:00]  Steve raises 600 pre-flop and Kurt calls.  Flop comes J-Q-J.  Steve checks, Kurticus bets 1200.  Steve raises and Kurt shoves.  Call.  Kurt shows pkt K's and Steve shows Q-10.  Turn comes something that makes an open ended flush draw for Steve.  Too many outs to calculate (ok he's probably still only 30% to win) but the river comes... blank.  Kings hold up for people who know how to play them.

That's all I got, I think I was dismissed not too long after this, but after watching Mike scoop pot after pot on the table I was at, I was pretty sure he was going to continue his winning streak.  But it looks like he was only able to make it as far as the Bubble.  Unfortunate for him too, because it means he stays in a tie for Mini-Season 4 and will be splitting those bonus chips with Jagu.

The honors for Week 20 of this, the 20th season of the BPC, goes to the Burnett's!  Chester finishes in the top spot for his 1st win of the season and 4th pointing.  He moves from tied (with Potts) at 15th up just one spot to 14th, but now he's dangerously close at only 18 points out of the Top 9, instead of 32.  Somebody do something.  In the mean time take us to Defcon 4.

Jeena got 2nd and her move is even more significant, going from 7th to 3rd and securing her ticket to the show.  Congrats Jeena!

Allen Y bags 3rd and makes a nice move up, but is still on the outside looking in, just behind Kurt at 11th.

Padma gets 4th, her fifth 4th of the season and 8th pointing of the season, keeping a firm hold on 2nd and is now just 10 points behind overall leader Mike.

Eric gets the scrappy 5th, and importantly, moves up a spot to 4th.

And as mentioned Mike was the Bubble Boy.

Season 20 - Week 19

There were a ton of good hands last night, and a lot of them
Week 19 winner... Jagu!
With the winning hand.
involving King's, all of which if I recall correctly held up successfully. Except for one... the final hand of the night.

Jagu was on the brink of his tournament life several times at the final table, getting down extremely low in chips and almost losing them all on a few occasions.  But like the great ones do, he was able to claw his way back, build his chip stack up, and eventually get to heads up against Mike, who always has a big stack.

They're about even in chips but Jagu has him just slightly covered when Mike shoves all-in preflop.  Jagu calls.  Mike shows pkt K's and Jagu shows A-9 off suit.  No late drama here, 2 pair for Jagu right on the flop and no help for Mike's K's from there gives Jagu the Week 19 win of this, the 20th season of the BPC.  Congrats Jagu!

It's a meaningful win that puts him back into the Top 9, moving up 7 big spots from 11th all the way up to tied for 4th with Eric the Milkman.  It also ties him with Mike for Mini-Season 4 with just one week to play.

Mike got 2nd and remains the hottest player in the league right now.  He's pointed in 6 of his last 7 starts and we should probably feel fortunate he missed a couple of weeks recently or he may be running away with it even more.  He's got 69 points in that time frame alone, which is 21 more points than the next nearest guy (Jeremiah) has.  He's 15 points ahead of 2nd place, so he's still in reach, but if he doesn't point for the last 6 weeks then he has the opportunity of becoming only the second member of the supremely exclusive and ridiculously desirable Club 99.  Something to think about Mike.  You get tee shirt and I'll even show you the secret handshake.

I wiggled into the final money spot at 3rd, and move up from 9th to 6th, passing by Kurt, Charlie, Jeena and Amir.

Padma got 4th and it keeps her comfortably in 2nd place.

Judy got the scrappy 5th and Eric was the Milk Bubble.

So as mentioned, Mike has a firm hold of first, and Padma is comfortable in 2nd, but beyond that there is a massive log jam and ONLY 4 POINTS separate places 3 through 9.  And outside the 9 there's another pack that is just a strong finish or two away from getting to the show.

With one week left in Mini-Season 4, Mike and Jagu are tied for the lead, but there are still 5 others with a shot at a piece of those tasty bonus chips.

And with 6 weeks left in the season, we're looking at one of the tightest races to the finish ever.  There's already 9 players that are guaranteed at least 72 points, which has been near the magic number in the past.  Something tells me that it's going to take at least 78 to get it this season, but it's still too early to tell.  Every win is big, but every win from here on out is season changing.
