BPC Season 20 - Week 3

Week 3 Winner...
Brice!!!
My poker night ended earlier than planned again, thanks for asking.  Just as I was re-accumulating chips thanks to my J-2 hand catching 2-pair against Jeremiah's J-something-better-than-2.  But a hand or two later I'm committed for everything with A-K (suited!) but run into Once-Twice-Brice and his pkt 10's, which unfortunately for me hold up for him.  Apparently Big Slick A-K was not very kind to a few other people last night too.

And for at least one person, A-Q was even less kind.  My reporters in the field tell me Chess raised pre-flop with A-Q, and Potts calls on the button with Q-9.  Flop comes Q-2-3 and I'm sure boffa dem got a little tingly after flopping top pair.  Chess smooth plays it and checks, and Potts feels like it's an opportune time to go all in.  Chess calls and the river comes 9, giving Potts top 2.

Nothing on the river and Chess is out early.  Again.

But this was the last pre-season week for Chess, he claims he'll be foh real starting next week, so buckle up.  Or get your bets in.

"Brice gutted JC like a trout."  - Potts

Dah fuq?  What sent JC steaming out the door on the Bubble?  It took some research but here it is, an exclusive just for you.  Slick's on the big blind and JC is in a conversation with someone not paying much attention to anything.  Steven Earl sees his opportunity and raises 3500.  JC, oblivious to the raise, declares his own "raise".  Commotion ensues when the table tells him he needs to make it 7000.   Awka awkward.  JC doesn't take too kindly to that, especially after Slick calls a floorman on it.

After a few minutes of he-said, she-said, bla-bla, whoever the floorman was confirms the ruling and JC is compelled to put in the 7000.

The action doesn't end there though.  In the same hand, Steven Earl  sees yet another opportunity with JC now on tilt, so bets 7000 on the flop with a complete crap hand.  That was more than enough to make JC fold with Slick Rick still behind.

"I'm not gonna call now Rick, I'm gonna wait to take all YOUR chips."  - JC

(I wasn't there, but I like to imagine it in the best Clint Eastwood clenched teeth way possible.)

I forgot to mention JC started the hand as the massive chip leader with, according to my best sources, over 50K in chips.  So that hand is whatever, right?  No big deal.  Walk it off.

Not in the plan for JC, who tries to get tough on the very next hand and runs into Once-Twice-Brice and his pkt Q's (and my chips).  Ouch.

Ok, no problem, put some 'tusin on it you'll be ok.  Still plenty of chips left as long as you don't... oh no... please... don't.  All in again?  Say it ain't... so.  Ok no problem, no one's gonna call... unless... it's... Brice.  With.  Pocket.  Kings.

D'oh.

With that, JC goes from massive chip leader to this week's Bubble Boy and winner for most likely to kick a puppy on the way out.  Fkn poker.

Slick Rick went out at some point after that in 5th, then Padma in 4th.  Then...

"F**k You!"
- Steven Earl, 11:35 pm

Why such colorful language you ask?  So did I.  Down to 3 handed and Steven Earl shoves with A-Q off suit, and Brice calls with J-8.  J on the flop and nothing after that means Steven Earl is out.  (But with money and points at least.  I called it in Week 1, he WILL be at the Final Table.)  With his second good pointing of the season, he pulls into sole possession of 1st place.

That left Brice and Potts heads up at the delightfully early time of 11:40.  Unfortunately for Potts though, Brice held an 8:1 chip advantage on him, so it's over then, right?  Especially because he's playing with my chips.  Let's find out...

[11:49 pm]  Chips go all in and Brice has a respectable J-9 against Pott's comedic 3-6.  Game over, it's a wrap, call the goats, wipe your tushie, it's over, yes! before midnight.  Awesome.

Wait, what?  Flop is what you say?  9-3-Q?  Say what again.  Say it.
Potts doubles up.
J-9 vs 3-6
Guess what wins.

[11:55 pm]  Blinds are 3000-6000 and I just got back from a surprisingly satisfying rest break.  Not a double-flusher, but the next best thing.  It got more surprising when I get back and find out Potts just doubled up again.  Game on.

[11:56 pm]  "I think you're ahead Potts" - Brice
"Yeah" - Everyone at the table (Brice and Potts)

[12:01 am]  "Kid's got alligator blood."  - Potts
After Potts had been collecting chips but Brice just took down a big, big, big hand.  Big.

(That one seemed funnier at the time.  Seems kinda lame now, who says "alligator blood"?)

[12:09 am]  Brice goes all in with 7-5 diamonds (and my chips), against Pott's whatever, and... WINS!!!

And with that Once-Twice-Brice, the King of the Rebuy, takes down Week 3 of this, the 20th Season of the BPC, and becomes the first ever player to take it down after a rebuy.

Great job Brice-a-roni!!!

2nd Place, Potts...

3rd Place, Steven Earl...

4th Place, Padma...
Scrappy 5th, Slick Rick...
And da Bubble Boy, JC...

Season 20 - Week 2

Season 20 Week 2 Winner...
Mike!

After a long hiatus and taking a few seasons off, Mike started to play some weeks in the final legs of last season.  He seemed more interested in sucking people into a cash game than trying to point, but still did finish well a few times.  He says he's going to try and play this, the 20th season of the BPC, if it doesn't sabotage his Iron Man workout schedule.  He may be even more motivated now that he's got his first win in only the second week.  I didn't make it that far so I have no idea how he did it, but here's a pic of happy Mike with the winning hand and all the chips.

I don't have much other info to provide, other than how they finished.

2nd place goes to Allen Y, playing in his first game of the season.

3rd Place, The Godfather...

4th Place, Padma...

Allan U got the scrappy 5th.

And Steven Earl had a strong chance of being the first to point twice, but goes out as the Bubble Boy instead.

BPC Season 20 - Week 1

First Place:  Kumo.
Miss you Keeks
Hard to believe it, but this is the 20th season of the BPC.  That's over 10 years of good times, bad beats, even worse jokes and spectacular hospitality from the Burnett's.  We can't thank you enough Jeena and Chess (mostly Jeena) but I'll say it again, thanks for hosting and creating such a nurturing environment for this wonderful family of degenerates.

On to Week 1 action...

Somebody should have rolled over the 'JC' bet because one thing we found out early was that Chess was not going to go wire-to-wire leading in points this season.  Like Bush during Hurricane Katrina, he came in late and left early and was never much a factor.

Now there's a couple of things I don't get to say enough.  Bush and Chess was not a factor.

Who was a factor was, well, me.  I was lucky enough to get cards that held up, and even put a bad beat on one or two people.  The one that comes to mind was against Jeff Potts, who caught me trying to get unscrupulous with Kh 3s.  He got his money in good with Ac 10c (67%), but the flop unveiled with 3 spades and a 4th spade on the river gave me the flush and set the Equus auto pilot on a direct route back to Yorba Linda.

Steven Earl took 2nd place.  He has claimed early and often that he guarantees he will be at that this season's final table, and he's off to a good start.  He played very solidly all night (hurt's just saying that) and even made a great lay down when I flopped trips and rivered quads.  A younger, dumber, drunker Earl would have insta-called my raises.  I'll go ahead and call it right now, he will be at the final table.  (That hurt a bit too.)

3rd went to Charlie, who took a season or two or three off but has clearly not lost his poker form.  Or his dealer skills, thanks for dealing and thanks for the cards Charlie, and welcome back.

Slick Rick cleverly nurtured a short stack to 4th place, and Kelly got the scrappy 5th spot.

Jeff Potts was the bubble.  (Did I mention him yet?)
