Season 10 - Week 4

BPC Season 10 - Week 4

[8:46]  Week 4 of the season, and blinds are at 75-150, but just barely.  Another late start again tonight, apparently people are still on holiday time.  We gotta get cards in the air on time people, the games are going way too late (not that I was at the final table or anything, just saying.)

Sunj just took down a big pot from bother O.  Not sure what the hand was, but he's down to about 5000, and she's at about 16,000.  It won't be the low point of Omar's chip stack for the night.

Mike:  "Hey Scott, are you and Jagu always at the same table at the start of the game or what?"
Scott: "Ah man, c'mon, don't start instigating things.  Jagu didn't even notice I was here until you said that, now he's gonna put the hurt locker down on me."
Mike:  "I'm not an instigator man, I just bring the love."

Well ok, since you put it that way.

[8:52]  Jackinthetwins is here, and offers to deal, whoo-hoo!  Always very much appreciated.  She peeks down at my  next two starting hands, which are pretty good, but neither of which hold up and just cost me chips.  But she has the sense to not look at the next one, and of course I win it.  Yes, the 5th dimension does exist.

3 way action with Kurt, Jeff Hall and Arjan in the hand and the flop comes 10h-Jd-2d.  Arjan bets out 3500 on the turn, which comes an Ah.  Jeff Hall shoves all in for 8000, and Kurt insta-calls.  Arjan clocks for a while, but eventually folds his flopped set of 10's.  Kurt shows K-Q for the nut straight, and Hall shows A-J for top two.  River comes a 3s, no help for Jeff and he's sent to the permament dealer spot.

[8:56]  I'm making my way back to the table after visiting the restroom (and thankfully a dry toilette seat this week) and Omar and Mike are in a hand.
Omar:  "You value raised me."
For some reason he finds humor in Mikes bet, so much so that he shoves for the rest of his chips, about 5075.  Pot is about 7000, and Mike has about 6300 left.
Thinks.  Thinks.
Mike:  "This is so sick dude.  Will you show me?"
Omar:  "Mike, you know the answer to that."
Table (in unison):  "Whatever you want me to do."
Thinks a bit more.
Mike:  "K, I fold.  Show me."
Omar:  "Throw your cards into the muck then."

He finally does, and Omar shows K-10 for top pair and 10 kicker.  Mike shows A-K for top pair and bad laydown.  Tough one though, if I remember right, the flop may have been 6-K-6 so you never know.  Strong move by O.

[9:07]  I just donked off about 6000 to Sungina after flopping top 2 pair, and she hits a straight somewhere along the way.  Crap.  Then I look down and see, yes, pkt K's.  I only have about 2500 left, so I don't really have the luxury of listening to my therepist and folding, I need to play it out.  And I'm feeling pretty good about it.  There's some limpers in, and I'm last to act and I shove quickly.  Nice suspicious steam over bet from position, someone's gotta pay me off.  Karrie thinks a bit from the little blind, then pushes all in for about 7000.  Nice, protection.  Everyone else folds and I'm pretty sure she has A-K and I'm way ahead.  Still though, I can't feel THAT good, history and all, and I'm reluctant to show.  Karrie on the other hand, proudly shows off her pkt Aces.  Ouch, what are the odds?  About 1:1 it seems for me.  No worries, this is the new season though right?  Think happy thoughts.  To cut to the chase, a K shows up on the river, and I crack the Aces.  Yippee!  Wish I had more chips though, even with the double up I'm only at 5000.

That's all I got, I donked off the rest off shortly after that, and joined the growing cash game table, playfully experimenting with Pot Limit Omaha.  Pretty cool game so far, but still far from a comfort zone.  Especially when the conversation at the table usually goes something like this:

Mike:  "Good fold Chester."
Chess: "Mike, why you acting like a gay-sian guy named Tuan?"

The final table went forever.  When it was 6 handed and down to the bubble, Nicole was clinging to life with about 3000 left.  Everyone else was pretty healthy, probably over 20K on the low side, but someone went all-in and got a call.  Unfortunately the all-in held up, and Nicole was out pretty shortly after that.

Omar at one point when it was 4 or 5 handed, was down to 2000 chips after losing a big pot to Kurt.  Somehow though, just a few hands later, he was back at 40,000.  Amazing.  The final 5 fought for a long time, and Julius, no longer the monkey with a shotgun, was first to go out in 5th, then Bagu 4th, then Jagu 3rd.  Somewhere along the way, Kurt and Omar were all in with pkt A's and K's respectively, and Omar is on the ropes yet again.  But miraculously, the board ends up a straight, and they chop it.  This was probably the final turning point, and in the end, Omar is able to outlast Kurt, and take down first.

Here's the results:

Next week's game will once again be on WEDNESDAY, 1/6.  This should be the last schedule Wednesday game of the season.  The following week however, is a DOUBLE HEADER week, with a game on both Thursday and Friday (1/14 and 1/15.)

Next week is also the last week if the first 5 week mini-season, and its still pretty much anyone's game.  If you win next week, there's a pretty good chance you will claim the 250,000 bonus chips.

Season 10 - Week 3

Week 3 was held on Wednesday, Christmas eve-eve, and was kicked off by a fun little White Elephant gift exchange. I lost all my notes from the night, and most of my brain cells as well, as the cash game went until about 6:00 am the next day and it was already light outside. Actually, the cash game probably went to about 3:00 am, but the rest of the night was spent kicking off the inaugural meeting of the BPC Subcommittee on Finance, Religion, Politics and Foreign Affairs.

What I do remember from the gift exchange though, is that we were about half way through the gifts, and all of the gifts up to that point were all either alcohol or alcohol related. Which not only says something about the club, but has clearly been shown in history to frequently lead to the formation of random subcommittees.

So I'm not left with much to write about, other than to say the Federal Reserve is neither Federal or does it have reserves, is evil and should be dissolved, and has been the single source of the "business cycles" that have caused recessions and depressions, and the continuous transfer of wealth.

That, and a note that we're 3 weeks into the 5-week mini-season, and no one has yet to point more than once. Let's see who the first to do it will be. Whoever it is will likely be the one to capture the 250,000 final table bonus chips.

Season 10 - Week 2

BPC Season 10 - Week 2

"What's the difference between Santa and Tiger Woods?  Santa stops at 3 ho's."  - Cake
Doh.  So that's how Week 2 of the New Season starts... with a giggle.  Just like it should.  Thanks for that Cake.  Speaking of giggle, let's get to the action.

[8:20]  Steven is here after missing last week, brought the pizza (about 4 metric tons of it) and is dealing.  That's a good man there.  So we'll overlook the Q of hearts he mis-dealt and had to burn.  5 people are in the hand, and the flop comes 7-3-4, all hearts naturally.  Jeff the Champ Hall bets out 1500, and Steven raises to 3500.  Ruby calls and Jeff folds.  Turn comes a 2, no heart.  Steven bets out 3000, and Ruby thinks for a bit, then shoves all in.  Steven calls with pkt 10's, one heart, and Ruby shows 8-5 hearts, for the made flush and straight flush draw.  Steven is gonna need some help with another heart that's not the 6.  There's 5 left so there's a chance, and the river comes... rag.  No help, this is the New Season, no bad suckouts, and Steven is the first casulty.  Thankfully being the stand up guy he is, he keeps dealing for us for a while.

[8:37]  Nicole bets out 500 from mid-position and gets 2 callers behind.  She throws out another 1000 after the flop, and is left with just one caller, Potts.  She makes it 3000 after the turn, and Potts has seen enough.
Potts:  "Nice bluff Nicole, I know you didn't have squat."
Nicole: "Oh really?"  (turns over pkt Kings.) Brugh, I got nauseous just typing that.
Potts:  "Thanks, I only said that so you'd show me."

Yeah, I could have done without seeing them.

[8:39]  Not too much later, I'm under the gun and they come... pkt Kings.  Crap.  Muck them, just muck them.  You've already de-friended them on Facebook, and you're accumulating chips nicely, just don't mess with them.  You don't need them, you're a better person without them.  Muck them and don't look back, just like you learned in therapy this week.  So I did, I actually honestly mucked the pkt Kings, and it felt liberating.  Flop comes 9-3-7, and that looks like a pretty good board for pkt Kings, but screw it, its behind me.  Turns out Potts flopped two pair, and I would have been in big trouble.  I think I dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back.  Here's to you New Season!

[9:07]  A few limpers in and the flop comes A-J-9.  Cake checks, Hall bets out 1500, and I call with K-Q hearts.  (There's only one heart on the board.)  Cake thinks for about .4 milliseconds and shoves for 5650.  Hall calls for only 300 more, and I fold like a little school girl.  Cake show A-J for top two, and Hall shows... not really sure he did show, but Cake's hand holds up and we're one champ down.

[9:15]  Damn, I just sat on a wet toilette seat.  Any chance at all that was water?

[9:37]  Flop comes 8-7-6 rainbow with 650 already in the pot.  Check all the way to me in the pre-button position (does that have a name?)  I bet out 3200, and Jeremiah smells a rat an calls.  Jeena thinks, and thinks, and eventually folds.  Turn comes a 4, and I bet out again, and again a call from Jeremiah.  Same deal on the river, which comes a King.  I show my flopped straight and scoop a good chunk of Jeremiah's chips.
Jeena:  "OMG, that was a brilliant play.  By me.  OMG that was just a great freaking play be me.  I had the sucker straight and it came.  OMG that was so good.  Yours was good too Kumo, but mine was friggin brilliant."

Ummm... thanks?

[9:44]  Nicole shoves from mid for 5100, getting a call from Jeremiah who shows pkt Kings.  Wow, there they are again.  Good, maybe they're moving on and will start harrassing someone else.  Hope its not you Jeremiah, but sorry for this hand at least, you're done.  Nicole shows pkt 8's and the flop comes an 8 with no King!!!  Holy crap, Kings lose again!  Turn, river, no King, ship it.  But wait, 4 diamonds on the board?  Ouch, I didn't see that.  Either did Jeremiah, who was already counting the chips to send to Nicole.  But one of his Kings is the diamond, so the pot is his, and Nicole is out.

[9:51]  Jeremiah and Ruby in a hand and the flop comes 7-A-10.  Somebody shoves and gets a quick call.  Ruby shows a flopped a set of 10's.  Nice hand, but not as good as Jeremiah's flopped set of Aces.  Ouch, set over set, that always stings.  Jeremiah is on da roll and is at 25,000 now.

[11:00]  Final table is (in order) Potts, Cake, Jeremiah, Kelly, Jeena, Chess, Chris, Kumo and Omar (dealing.)

[11:23]  Omar is all in with A-K against Chester and a King high flop.  Chester has K-7, and the turn comes another King (how many are there in the deck anyways?)  River comes... yup, a 7.  Ouch, the old 3 outer comes through for Chess, and Omar is sent to the rail.

That's all I got, which is odd because there was still 4 hours of play left since we didn't wrap up until after 3:00 am.  Sleep is overrated.

Here's how it ended:

Season 10 - Week 1

[8:35] Tis the season... for more poker. Love is in the air as we kick this 10th season of the BPC off with some announcements and take a moment to reflect on our blessings, accomplishments, loved ones, and donkeys. We have all of them here. Congratulations again to our very own Sponge Bob Jeff Hall, for winning last season's final table, his second win in 3 years. Very well done. He spent the last few weeks of the season sweating out maintaining his position in the Top 9, and ended up tightly sandwiched in the 8th spot just one point behind 7th and one point ahead of 9th. I didn't see a single hand at the final table because I was too busy donking off my chips to Nisha The Velvet Hammer in the loser's bracket, but by all accounts Jeff played excellent poker and was able to claw his way to the top and take down the the dominate chip leader Chester in heads up play. Also congrats to Jeff Potts for strategically showing up about 4 1/2 hours late for the second table, and taking down Nisha in heads up play for the win.

Once again we also give thanks to the Burnetts for hosting the club and the rag tag group that decends upon Taffeta Lane every week. And finally, big congratulations to Sapna, Sonny, Bagu, Ruby and Jaclyn... they are expecting twin boys!!! Great, more Tejwani-like peeps to beat down on me.

One final announcement in case you missed it, there will be additional bonus chips this season. Each 5-week winner will receive an extra 250,000 in chips to bring with them to whatever table they end up at. Meaning, the 25 week season will be separated into 5 5-week periods, and whoever scores the most points for EACH 5-week mini-season will get an extra 250,000 to rub all over their greased up bodies for the final tables. (Ok maybe its just
Chess that does that.) This should create very competitive mini-sprints that help increase the focus and action even more over the long season.

And now on to the action...

[8:40] A full 5 minutes into the new season and we have our first all in. Cupcake and Jackass heads up and there's a King high flop with 2 spades. The Cup has K-7 spades for top pair and second nut flush draw, and Jackodonkey has A-K. No help comes, and Cup is our first casualty. No fair though, that was 3 against 1.

Speaking of which, Jackolope, Sapna and Kikoo will be playing as a team this year under the banner of SoupOrSalad (pronounced sah-laad'.) Also, The Cake and the Karrie will be tag teaming as well under team KarrieCake. I will continue to give away all my chips by myself.

"For my 40th, I had a mexican luau. Want to hear it?" - Kurt

Not sure why I wrote that down, but its not something you hear every day.

[9:06] Still so early in the season, and I look down and see... my feet. But I look a little higher and I see, oh crap, he's back already... pkt Kings. Yikes, pkt Kings. Damn you pkt K's, its far too early for me to deal with you, I should just toss you back in the muck.

PK: "No Kumo, don't do that, its a new season, I'll treat you right."

Kumo: "Yeah right. It IS a New Season though."

PK: "With all new possibilities and opportunities, c'mon let's bury the hatchet and start fresh."

Kumo: "Bury the hatchet? Take it out of my back first you slimey piece of sh..."

PK: "Awe Kumo, don't talk like that. Come on, its a new season, and you know I love you."

Kumo: "You do look good tonight. Have you been working out?

PK: "Its all for you Kumo, now let's do this."

Kumo: "Ok."

Its a new season though, right? With new results, right? Everything should be back to normal and Kings should be a relatively decent hand, right? Right! Let's do this! Eh, better just call and walk this one through, you just know I'm behind, no matter what everyone else has. 5 players end up smooth calling, and the flop comes Queen high. Perfect!...ish. You really can't ask for much more, right? Still though, I can't shake that Charlie Brown feeling that Lucy is holding the ball long enough for me to run full speed into it, just to pull it away at the very last second, sending me flying into the air and landing shamed and bewildered on my ass.

There's about 750 in the pot, how about jogging into it with a 700 bet. Snap call from Jagu. Damn, does it really have to be Jagu? Really? He more than anyone, has completely had my number EVERY time we run into each other. No matter what I have, over the last few seasons he always manages to find a way to come from behind and suck out. Why couldn't it have been someone else? BUT, its a new season right? Right! Turn comes a rag, and Jagu checks. Ok, enough of this nonsense, time for a gallop... 3000 bet. Call from Jagu. Crap. He's gotta have a Queen, but it doesn't feel like he's proud of his kicker. There's no flush draw, no straight draw, if he had a set he probably would have went over the top of the 3000 bet. Ok New Season, let's take this one home, time for the river, which comes... a Queen. :(

You know that Price Is Right music with the trumpets that they play whenever someone has a chance of winning, but doesn't. Yeah, loud and clear. Jagu checks and I can't bet in to it, he shows Q-5. Ouch, that's a big call with that crappy a kicker. My first instinct was that he made a bad read and didn't put me on a strong Q or an over pair, but clearly he put me exactly on the pkt K's, knowing full well I couldn't possibly win with them. Well played.

That's a tough loss so early in this "new season", so far its just like the old. But I still got about 7000 in chips, plenty to play with.

[9:18] We're down one Ant. Not sure what happened, Sunj shipped about 4000 chips to him earlier in the night, but it looks like she got them all back, as well as all of his.

[9:20] 9-8-3 rainbow flop and Jagu puts Nicole all in for about 5000 with about 4000 in the pot. Nicole calls with pkt Kings, and Jagu shows pkt 10's for the overpair, but still behind. For now at least, wait for it... Kings never hold up. Turn comes a rag, and river a rag, and Nicole doubles up with the Kings. Wuh? Wait, huh? What happened? I don't get it, it looks so easy.

[9:25] Padma shoves all in with a K and a K-8-3 board. Jagu calls from the big blind with 8-3, two pair. No help and Padma is out.

[9:33] I got 9-3 in the hole. Cool, this could be a fun hand, time for some revenge. Jagu has beaten up on me with 9-3 on at least 2 very significant occasions in our history. Huge huge pots with either chip lead or money position on the line, and ever since then its been a goal to beat with with that very same hand and return the favor. Some people aspire to win tournaments, maybe cash at the main event. No, not me, my main goal in poker, second only to winning a hand with pkt Kings, is to beat Jagu with 9-3. He plays it only because it was the birth weight of his first grandson. Hey, whatever works, and this one has worked for him in the past. But this is the New Season!!! And its my turn to show him some birth weight.

So I min raise from middle position with the 9-3, and of course get the call from Jagu. Fine. Flop comes 9-6-3, holy crap, I did it, I flopped 2 pair with this crappy hand, AND have Jagu hooked. Thank you New Season!!! Checks around to me and I bet out 1800, getting the snap call from Jagu. Perfect, and the turn comes a King, which I'm not worried about at all. This is proceeding nicely. Jagu bets out 3000, and I shove for the rest. There's about 15,000 in the pot, and he shows A-9, flopping the initial top pair-top kicker against my two pair. No worries, I got him right where I want him, he's only got 9 outs with one card to go, I'm over 4-1 favorite.

River comes... a 6.

Counterfitted, and I'm sent packing. Welcome to the "new season".

Sorry, I wish I had more hands to write about, but that's all I got. Here's how it ended up:
