Season 10 - Week 17

BPC Season 10 - Week 17
-----------------------

There were some crazy hands last night, we had a straight flush on Table 2, and Table 3 had a couple of sick ones in a row, like a boat against another boat against a straight flush draw.  But I didn't write any of them down, things at work have been a little too busy to keep up with my night job as the BPC chronicler.  Even though I like that job much better, the day job still pays just a little bit more.

The one hand I do remember vividly of course was the hand I went out on.  I had been stealing some pots with rags and feeling pretty saucy about myself.  The board come 8-7-8, and Ruby and I get into yet another arms race, with me betting out big, and her calling.  A few hands earlier I had done the same thing and pushed all in on the river because I know she wiffed, and she folded.  This time I had big lick 6-9, giving me the outside straight draw, so I push all in again on the semi bluff.  She thinks for a bit and comes to the conclusion that she's sick of this and I'm full of crap and calls me with a 7.  Damn, good call. I'm down to 11 outs but heck that's almost 60-40.  Nonetheless nothing comes for me and I'm snapped rudely to the rail.

And it looks like she put those chips to good use as she is this week's winner!  Good job Ruby.  The 15 points pushes her up to within striking distance of the Top 9, this after missing 6 weeks of the season (almost a third.)

Arjan posts his second pointing of the season and takes 2nd place, and Eric takes down 3rd.  The 9 points for 3rd boost The Milkman up for a tie for 6th.  Earl takes down 4th and Jeena takes the scrappy 5th for the fifth time this season.  The 3 points are just enough to keep her in the Top 9 and bump Hee Hall back out after a very brief stay.

Tuan was the bubble boy for the week.

BPC Season 10 - Week 16

BPC Season 10 - Week 16
-----------------------

Since Cupcake wasn't there last night, someone apparently had to take over the contract with the devil, and that someone was Season 9 Final Table champ Jeff Hall, who kept getting monster cards to build up a monster chip stack, and once he had that he just leaned on people until they crumbled.  He was kind enough to send me home with a nifty little 3-outer instead of doubling me up so close to the points.  Rats.

Here's how it ended:

BPC Season 10 - Week 15

BPC Season 10 - Week 15
-----------------------

It was a double header week, and normally I would be very much looking forward to back to back games, but Thursday's game set an all new low for pace of game, and I think we still had a full final table after midnight.  The game did not end up wrapping up until after 3:00 am, making for a brutal morning and a long day of work.  Come game time on Friday, I find myself with limited success propping up my eyelids with what little chips I have just to see my cards.  Tired, so very tired.  A couple of points in the night I thought I had some good hole cards, only later to realize I was just seeing double.  Such was my night.

I did happen to scrap my way to the final table, but as the short stack with even less chips than Jeena, who made it there without playing a single hand.  I'm so jealous of that strategy looking back, I could have had more chips and propped myself up in the corner somewhere for a few blissful moments of sleep.

So this week's color commentary comes from cub reporter Burt Trosey:

"Two guys enter the poker octogon:  Kurt K-Large Lohse with 25,000 and Captain Cupcake with 175,000.  KLarge rallies to 50,000, then "The Hand."  KLarge gets pocket 4's and pushes pre-flop.  Cupcake calls with 9-10 off suit, and the flop comes... 9-10-K.  'Oh shit!'  Turn comes... 8, no help.  River... 4!!!!  'Sweet, sweet two-outer'."

"About 30 minutes later, KLarge just calls with 2-4 off, and Cup checks.  Flop comes 2-2-8, both check.  Turn comes... 2.  KLarge checks, Cup checks and the river comes... A.  KLarge bets out 15,000, Cup raises and KLarge shoves all in.  The Cup calls with an A, and its all over."

So Cup's run for an unprecedented hat-trick of three wins in a row is cut just short at the finish line.  The 2nd place and 12 points is huge for him though.  First, he crushes the Mini-Season 3 with 44 points, more than double of what the Mini-Season 1 winner had.  And after being in dead last for the first 12 weeks of the season, he is now in 5th place overall!  Very impressive Cup.  That deal you made with the devil is really working out for you.  Have fun in hell.

Kurt's first place is big too, creating some significant separation from the rest of the field, most notably Chess and Potts who blanked last night.  The 15 points for first last night put him at 76, a full 12 points ahead of Chester

Jeremiah follows up the previous game's 2nd place with a 3rd place and 9 points last night, moving him into third overall at 58 points, 18 points behind the lead.  And forth place goes to... Arjan!  He's on the board with 6 points and nets Eric some of Chester's dough for their last longer side bet.  Jeena gets 5th place, and stays in 7th place overall.  Rumor has it Bagu was the Bubble Boy, but let me know if it was someone else.  For now its going in the books as Bagu.

So with 10 weeks to go and assuming conventional wisdom that 70 points is usually the cutoff for the Top 90, Kurt and Chess are locked in, and Jeremiah pretty much so.  (If he blanks the rest of the season, he'll have 68 points which gives him a chance at getting in, but any pointing from here on out pretty much locks it.)  The rest of the spots are still wide open, and we're setting up for yet another exciting finish.

10 weeks left, and Mini-Season 4 starts on Thursday.  Here's the standings:

BPC Season 10 - Week 14

BPC Season 10 - Week 14
-----------------------

After blanking the first 12 weeks and 9 appearances of the season, Cupcake got on the board last week with a first place finish, and follows it up AGAIN this week with another first place.  He was absolutely bullet proof last night, driving the action, pushing big stacks around and catching nasty cards time and time again.  Buy a lotto ticket son, cuz you're on da roll.  The 30 points in the last two sessions puts him at 39 for the season and has him knocking on the doors of the Top 9.  AND, it has him at 32 points for the Mini-Season, ahead of Chester by 3 and behind Eric by 2.  Its a 3 horse race now between those guys, everyone else is out of contention for the Mini-Season, which ends TONIGHT!!!  Side bet anyone?

Jeremiah got second and he's climbed to the 4th spot overall now at 49 points.  I got 3rd, giving me just enough to cling on to that final Top 9 spot (for now.)  Ruby is back after several weeks in India, and she hasn't lost a step at all taking down 4th, while Nicole takes 5th for the second week in a row.

Arjan was the Bubble Boy last night.  Chess and Eric have a continuation last-longer on Judy and Arjan, and he almost came through for Eric last night.  No soup, but there's always tonight.

No movement from either Chess or Kurt last night, so Chess will hang on to the top spot for another week.  Er, night.

Season 10 Week 13

BPC Season 10 - Week 13
-----------------------

Going into Week 13 there were 3 players left who had not pointed this season, Arjan, Judy and Cupcake.  Being the bunch of degenerates we are something like that can't go without some money on the side, so Chester, Eric and I had a last longer going on them.  Chester had Judy, Eric had Arjan, and I got the Cup.

I helped my cause early in the night by putting the hurt locker on Judy when she did her usual trick of calling down all my big bets and then catching her heart flush on the river again.  Only this time I pulled the old switcher-roo on her and had the nut flush.  Sorry Judith, but I still owe you a few hundred more of those.

Arjan was at Table 2 hanging on, but went out about mid way, so that just left the Cup.  Well not only did my horse come in, but he took first place last night, besting Chester in heads up play.  Nicely done Cupcake.

Chester's 2nd place boosts him back to the top overall spot again ahead of Kurt, who tried to keep pace with a third place finish last night but still finds himself two points behind now.  The Milkman took down 4th place, and Nicole hung on to $.50 worth of chips to sneak into the 5th spot.  And I was this week's Bubble Boy after donking off the 600,000 I had accumulated.

The Mini-Season race is a good one.  Eric is keeping the pedal to the ground with a 1st, 2nd and 4th place finish in the 3 weeks so far for 33 points.  But Chester is still in striking distance only 5 points behind at 28.

The only other news to report is that Earl brought his boy Mike from Sheboynigan who luckily was a cool guy so Judy didn't have to bounce is ass out the door.
