BPC Season 12 - Week 1

A Sauza Margarita fueled Jeena was able to take down opening night of the brand spanking new season of the BPC. Great job Jeena, way to get off to a good start. (And sorry about the pic, its the only one I have of you from last night.)
And the streak has ended!!! After finishing Season 11 with a very full bodied 16 week point-less streak, Chess is back in the points and back in the money with a 2nd place finish behind Jeena. "The streak ends now, and a new one begins tonight!" he was quoted as saying.
Padma was able to overcome a hurt Chess put on her chips early in the night, and look past the jerk-face verbal abuse he was trying to apply as well, and finish with a solid 3rd. She's clearly one of the favorites to make the Top 9 this year, after just missing out the last two seasons but committing to a full season this time around.
Also committed to a full season is our very own Donkey-with-a-Shotgun, Julius. Word on the street is that he laid down pkt Aces last night. That's something I'd like to see. Whatever he did, it was good enough for 4th place.
Nicole grabs the scrappy 5th spot, just ahead of this week's Bubble Boy, Mike.

This year's winner of the Mike Alzona Donkey (MAD) Award is no new comer to the honor. After losing the distinction to Cupcake for the last two seasons running, Julius has once again claimed the title!
He's planning on playing a full Season 12, and planning on playing solidly. So much so, that's he's guaranteeing that he'll make the Final Table.

BPC Season 11 - FINAL TABLE

And we have our Season 11 Final Table Champion!!!
After just missing the season points champion by a mere 2 points, Jeremiah came in with the second largest chip stack and was able to combine them with good play and put them to good use to outlast the rest of BPC's November 9.
It was a great final table with no shortage of action and great poker being played all around, and it was a very well deserved win for Jeremiah. He got hurt pretty early when he took the opportunity to take Bagu out with a J-10-5 board. Bagu shoved with just pocket 7's, and Jeremiah didn't seem too comfortable about it, but ended up calling with A-K. Nothing came and it was a nice double up for Bagu, and a big dent for Jeremiah. But he calmly leaned over to Potts and said... "No worries, I'll get them back."
And so he did. I wish I had kept a better record of some of the key hands, there was a lot to write about, but it ended up with Jeremiah faced off against all 3 of the Brothers Tejwani. They dropped one by one, the key one being Jagu, who was the massive chip leader for most of the tournament. Finally it ended up just Jeremiah and Bagu, with Jeremiah holding 90%+ of the chips, the tournament ended when his 5-6 found a straight.
Great, great job Jeremiah, and again very well deserved. Its great to see you with your poker swagger back.

BPC Season 11 - Week 25

And Season 11 is in the books!!! What a grind last night, with play led by two camps... the "Stay out of my way" camp, led by Chester, and the "I'm only playing Aces, Kings, and 8's" camp, led by Mike (and followed very closely by me and others.)
The "Stay out of my way" faction took a big hit early when on the first hand of the night Chester bets out big and gets a call from Judy. Flop comes 5, 7, 9. Chess pushes all his chips in and roars "Stay out of my way!" And what does he hear in reply? Those dreaded heart sinking words that just seem to cut a little bit deeper when they come from Judy... "I have to call."
Doh. Turns out they both had a piece of it, the 9 I think, but Judy was ahead and stayed ahead and Chester's season comes to an abrupt end. Unfortunately Judy wasn't able to parlay that quick double up into anything meaningful, and was out not too much after that. Don't let that fool you though, her true intent was to play some online poker, and she fared much better in that, taking down first place in a Rush poker tournament and netting a nifty $450 or so.
Julius was there again last night, and was a complete chip magnet. Within the first hour of play, he had accumulated a stack of about 60,000 chips. He should have just fired up some Madden 2006 and waited it out from there, but instead decided to gift his chips off to everyone on the table except for me. Thanks Jules, good looking out.
The turning point for him was a critical heads up hand with Mike. The board is A-K-rag with two spades, and Julius fires large into an already substantial pot. Mike mulls a bit, then a bit more. "Good fold Mike" from Julius. "All in". "Crap." Julius' turn to think. "F it, let's gamble," showing a flush draw against Mike's A-K for top two. "Spade! spade! spade!!!" Turn comes... 7 of spades!
Doh! And Mike is out. Oh wait, what? Oh, the river, right. Go ahead, its just a formality, Mike's drawing to a 4-outer. River comes... ACE!!! Full boat for Mike.
Huge pot, and Mike takes it down. Even more importantly, it was the "switch" moment that always seems to come to move Julius from a solid poker player, to a monkey with a shot gun. After that, his chips found their way to everyone except for me.
Going into the night there were about 8 players or so in the bubble zone, all who had a chance at still making it into the Top 9 if things played out right, or being kicked out if they went wrong. I think Judy was the first to go out, but she'll sleep well on a bed of online winnings. Then I think Nicole, who flopped trip Jacks with a board of J-J-5, but ran into pkt 5's.
Padma was next in line, going all in against Eric with a nasty Q-7 or something like that, but hit just enough to stay in. Eric ground it out to the final table, but couldn't make it into the points.
8 handed came down to: Jeremiah, Potts, Scott, Mike, KarJacked, Padma, Bagu and Jagu.
A lot of things could have happened at that point, and many fates could have changed. For example, I don't think we realized it at the time, but if it had finished Padma, Scott, KarJacked, Mike and Bagu, there would have been a 3 way tie for 9th place with Jeena, Mike and Bagu. That would have been fun.
As would any of the other multitude of finishes that were possible, but in the end, Padma dropped, then KarJacked. Then finally Jagu dropped on the bubble, leaving Scott in the points and back at the final table.
Unfortunately that was as far as I was able to go, going all-in pre-flop with pkt Q's and running into Mike's pkt K's not much later. At least it didn't happen a few hands earlier though.
Bagu hung around for 4th place, and Mike ended up with 3rd. Scratch that, Mike got 4th and Bagu got 3rd.
Head's up was down to Jeremiah and Potts, who happen to be the 2nd and 3rd overall, separated by only 3 points. Being heads up, Jeremiah secured 2nd place overall, but they were also battling for the Mini-Season 5 victory. The winner here, wins the mini-season.
I don't know how it played out, but Jeremiah ended up taking it down. The 15 points ends his season just 2 points behind our season points winner Steve. Great job everyone.

BPC Season 11 - Week 24

Padma takes down the win last night, and she's knocking on the door of the Top 9, tied for 10th and just a single point out!!! Well done Padma.
Mike takes 2nd place and makes a big move up into the Top 9, 7th place overall, passing by Bagu, KarJacked and Scott along the way.
Jeena got 3rd and moves from 8th up to 6th place. Bagu got 4th and moves from 9th to 8th. David got 5th and is prepping for next season, and Jagu was the bubble.
Boy things could not have gone more wrong for me. After getting pkt quads against Nicole's pkt K's, then somehow squandering all those riches, I really needed either David or Jagu to take some bigger points when it got down to the bubble zone. Instead, all 3 of the people right behind me pointed, moving past me and knocking me out of the Top 9 FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL SEASON. Crap. Timing is everything. I hate poker. I've now been blanked for 9 weeks in a row, and if I can't make something happen next week, then it will be the second season in a row where I've gotten 70 points and not made it into the final table. I hate poker. Really.
Top 9 Changes: Mike in, Scott out.
Chester's cold streak is extended to 15 weeks, and he is now officially out of contention for the Final Table. As are Sungina and Kurt.
ONLY 1 WEEK LEFT IN THE SEASON. Historically, for whatever reason, nothing ever changes in the last week of the season. I need to break that streak, and with 5 people still in contention, there's room for a lot of change.

BPC Season 11 - Week 23

Steven es en fuego, peaking at the right time and not only pointing for the third week in a row, but taking down first place. His overall lead is now a healthy 16 points (I think the most its been all season), and would have been more but Jeremiah pulls in his second 2nd place in three weeks, pushing past Potts to take control of 2nd place again.
Steven is also the Mini-Season 5 points leader. If he wins it, it will be his second of the season and we'll need a dump truck for all his chips at the final table. This is getting just a little too easy for him. I means seriously, look at his picture, its like its turned into a boring job for him.
Other than that, there was no movement in the Top 9. Eric returned back to the game after a two week layoff, and takes down 3rd place. The 9 points moves him past Padma, Chess, Sungina and Kurt, and into 13th place overall, just 7 points out of the coveted Top 9.
Judy took 4th place, and moves into a tie with Nicole (whose Aces got cracked twice in the first 10 minutes of the game) for 11th place at 60 points, just 5 points out.
And Kurt took the scrappy 5th place, moving him absolutely nowhere. But at 51 points, he's only 14 points out of the Top 9.
Padma was the Bubble.
My cold streak is extended to 8 weeks, after running into pkt K's near the bubble for the second week in a row. This after watching 3 or 4 short-stacked players cling to life with their all-in's time and time again. I really hate poker.

Chester's cold streak is extended to 14 weeks.

Potts takes down the win last night, and moves from 4th place back up to 2nd place overall, 6 points behind Steve, who got 3rd and seems to be doing just what he needs to do to keep himself in the overall lead.
Judy got 2nd place, and moves from 17th place to 12th place, passing Eric, Kurt, Sungina, Chess and Padma along the way. She's now just 11 points out of the Top 9.
Remo got 4th, Jagu got 5th and Omar was the Bubble.
Omar needed points to stay in contention. Unfortunately he, and everyone below him are now mathematically eliminated from the Final Table. Jeff The Champ Hall, currently in 21st place, still has a mathematical chance at it. If he wins the next 3 weeks in a row he'll end up with 68 points. Bagu is currently 9th and will have 67 if he blanks the last 3 weeks. Winning 3 weeks in a row is tough enough, but he'd also need everyone from Bagu and below to NOT point. Funnier things have happened in the BPC.

Chester's cold streak is at 13 weeks. Mine is now at a season high 7.
