Season 10 - Week 25

BPC Season 10 - Week 25
-----------------------

And Season 10 is in the books!  Razor thin margins separated a whole pack of players from the coveted Top 9 spots.  With so much at stake and still up for grabs, there was probably more chance for movement in the last game of the season this year than any prior.  However, as far back as we can remember, certainly the last few seasons, there has never been any movement or change in the final 9 in the final week.

That changed this year.  Let's start with this week's winner... Padma!  Padma missed 10 weeks this season, including a stretch of 6 weeks in a row traveling to far off lands.  Because of that, she was not really in contention for the Top 9, but she did come to play the role of a spoiler, and ends the year with a win.  She had two first places and a second place for the season, showing she knows how to finish.  Do not underestimate the Padma Power.

The big winner for the week though is RUBY.  She took down 2nd place last night, and the 12 big points gives her 78 and pushes her solidly into the Top 9 at 6th place.  Great job Ruby!  Ruby also missed 7 weeks of the season, and only bought one of those points.  The one point was the differentiator in the Mini-Season though, giving her 27 against Hee's 26.  Help yourself to 250,000 bonus chips Ruby.

With a 3rd place finish last night, The Milkman finishes the season strong and in 3rd place overall tied with Chess.  Nicole got 4th place, but comes up just a bit short, needing a 3rd place to make it to the big show.  I'm very curious to hear how those last few hands played out.  Kurt got 5th place, pointing for the first time in 10 weeks.  Its enough to give him overall second place all to himself, but not enough to take over the lead from this season's point champion... THE PROFESSOR!!!  Congrats BAGU, well done, way to get the people!

This week's bubble boy was Cake, who is playing well and looking even better.  He's slimmed down so much that Chess thinks we may need to change his name to Rice Cake.  Probably the funniest thing I've ever heard Chess say, and although he came up short in his quest for back-to-back points championships, he does get a gold star from the Humor Committee.  That was the 3rd bubbling for team KarrieCake, more than anyone else except for Arjan.

So let's talk about the losers.  First was Mike, who after a pretty horrific all around season, was still in contention and could have made it in with a win.  Unfortunately his pkt Aces got cracked early against A-K suited.  All you can do is get your money in when you're ahead, and let the poker gods take over the rest.  Apparently Mike really pissed off the poker gods this season though.  But we all know he'll be back very soon.

Omar was only a single point out of the Top 9, and needed a pointing of any kind this week to get in.  Or he could have just bought some of the points for the 4 weeks he missed.  Just a single point would have put him in a tie for 9th, all 4 would have given him 8th place to himself.  Instead he went out a little early, and there was a collective sigh of relief at the table that a major threat had been dispatched.

Potts and I both needed a 4th place or better to make it in, but we came up short.  We are 2 of 5 people who will have 70 points and not make it in.  That calls for a sad face... :(  The good news is that I had pkt K's and not only did they hold up but I tripled up with them.  The bad news is that the triple up still only put me at about $1.50, but it did feel good and maybe its a sign that the curse has ended.  I went out with pkt 10's, which apparently is not that great a hand, especially when you run into Kurt's pkt Q's.

And then there's our beloved Judy, who completes her near perfect season with yet another blank.  She'll be back though, if not here then maybe taking on the big guns in Vegas again.  Note however I do say near perfect, because although she did finish the season without any pointings, she did miss two weeks, so there is room out there for someone to best her record.

Finally, we have Earl and Jeremiah, who find themselves teetering on the edge and tied for 9th place at 73 pts.  And that means extra innings for those two, who will play in a heads up playoff game tonight.  Winner goes to the show, loser goes to the best-of-the-rest table.  In a common theme, Earl missed 6 weeks and did not buy any of those points.  Had he bought them all, he would have had 6th place all to himself, rather than be fighting for his Final Table life tonight.

Thanks everyone for yet another great season, and congratulations to all the main table winners!
