Season 10 - Week 8

BPC Season 10 - Week 8
----------------------

The Professor takes down his first win and third pointing of the season, bumping him up to a tie for 2nd overall at 32 points.  Steven shows up late and out of nowhere and takes down 2nd, giving him 12 points and just enough funds for the lucrative cash game.  Kurt continues his consistent solid play and finishes 3rd.  The 9 points pushes him further ahead in the overall lead, and he also takes over the lead from Chester in the mini-season with 2 weeks left.  Jagu and Kelly round out the top 5 for 4th and 5th respectively, and team KarrieCake bubbles for the second time this season.  Technically our first double bubble of the season, but The Cake bubbled for the team the first time, so its a gray area.

Season 10 - Week 7

BPC Season 10 - Week 7
----------------------

[8:14]  Money is being collected, seats are being assigned, food is being consumed, playoff football is being discussed, and Chess is drinking out of a pimp cup.  All is aligned in the world once again.  Let's get some cards in the air now.  (Speaking of which, we gotta start earlier people!)

The very first hand of the night on Table 1, and there's 3 limpers to Chester, who makes it 250 with a couple of callers.  J-5-7 flop, Arjan checks, Kurt checks, and Chess makes it 1400.  Arjan calls, Kurt folds, and the turn comes 8.  Arjan checks again, and Chess bets 2500, causing Arjan to take some time to think.  Chess:  "I'll show you."  Which seems to perk Arjan's interest even more.  "Ok, show me."  Arjan lays down his J-K off for top pair second kicker, and Chess shows J-7 for flopped 2 pair.  Good laydown by Arjan.

[8:28]  8-2-9 flop, two spades.  King on the turn, and the pot is already big, with Kurt and Chester in the hand.  Kurt checks, Chess bets out 1000, and Kurt check raises to 2500.  Chess tanks for a bit, and decides Kurt has K-8 and folds.  Kurt shows 5-3 offsuit for a nifty little bluff and collects the chips.

[9:31]  Down to two tables.  Flop comes Q-4-7, check check.  Turn is a King and I bet out 1600, getting a quick all in from Kurt for about 4000.  I call with my flop set of 4's, and Kurt is out with A-K.

[9:54]  4-3-5 flop, one diamondOmar bets out and gets a call from Judy.  Turn is the 6 of diamondsOmar bets again, and Judy calls again.  River comes the Ace of diamond, and this time Omar shoves all in, forgetting who he's playing against.  Judy calls, and Omar shows 6-7 for the flopped straight.  Judy shows J-Q diamonds for the runner-runner flush, yeah like I had to tell you.  Omar is crippled down to 1800, and Judy is over 19,000.
Omar:  "Don't be surprised if I'm over 40,000 in a few hands."  No, I wouldn't be surprised, but its not in the cards tonight.

[11:43]  Final table, in order:  Jeremiah (30,000), Karrie (8000), Nicole (2500), Chess (8500), Kumo (40,000), Arjan (16,000), Kikoo (12,000), Potts (38,000), Jeena (45,000).

I donked of 20,000 in the first two hands somehow, I think I had A-K both times, which unfortunately is not always as good a hand as it looks like.

Jeena is able to ride her chip lead and past my apparent slow rolls and take down the win for the week.  Great job.  The 15 points slips her into the Top 9, tied for 5th at 23 points, and gives her good position for the mini-season.  Old skool Jeremiah is back playing consistently solid poker, and takes down his second 2nd place of the year, and 3rd pointing for the season, boosting him up to second place overall, tied with Chess who took 3rd last night.  Potts took 4th, and I get the measly 5th spot after charitably doling out all my chips to everyone.

We're 7 weeks into the season, and we've had 7 different winners, and 7 different bubbles.

Season 10 - Week 6

BPC Season 10 - Week 6
----------------------

[8:50]  A bit late and I just got here, but even after being blinded out I probably have more chips than I normally do at this point in the game.  As I sit, people catch me up on a hand that happened just a few minutes earlier...

Blinds are 50-100, Chess makes it a 600 preflop bet, and folds all around to Bagu in the big blind.  Bagu raises it 1700 more, and Chess raises 4000 on top.  Bagu shoves all in and Chess snap calls, getting his chips in faster than Bagu can even reach for his.  Bagu shows A-10 clubs, and Chess shows pkt Aces, which hold up and Bagu is severely crippled early in the game.

[9:06]  "Two all-in's" called from Table 3.  As some of us head over to check out the action, we hear "make that 3 all-in's."  The board is 3 hearts, Jack high.  The Cup has pkt 6's, Omar has pkt K's, and Mike has A-K, with the A of hearts for the nut flush draw and the Ace out.  Turn comes 6, good for The Cup, but its not over yet, both Mike and O have their outs.  River comes... the case 6, for runner-runner quads.  Cupcake wins the main pot, a whopping 2000 chips, Omar gets 15,000 for the side pot, and Mike gets first seat at the cash game.

[10:05]  Kurt raises to 1200 from late position and a bunch of limpers before him.  Jeremiah calls, and I really feel like Kurt is just making a move to pick up all those blinds, and I nearly shove with my rags just to find out, but end up just calling.  Sapna on the other hand shoves for 6000 more.  Whew, glad I didn't shove.  Kurt calls.  Double whew, would have gotten 2 callers.  Jeremiah folds and I fold, and Sapna shows pkt Jacks, while Kurt is rolling with pkt Aces, showing just how bad my read was.  The bullets hold up, and team SoupOrSalad is out.

[10:15]  Down to two tables, and the blue table calls 3 all-in's again.  I think the chips were all in preflop, but when we get over there to check it out, there a Jack high board with 2 spades.  Nisha has J-10 spades for top pair with the flush draw.  Nicole has pkt 10's for the under pair, and Omar is ahead with pkt Q's.  The Q's hold up, Nisha and Nicole are sent to the rail, and Omar is the chip leader at over 40,000.

[11:15]  Down to the final table, in order Ruby, Jagu, Sungina, Chess, Kumo, Jeremiah, Omar, Jeena, and Kurt on the button.  Omar continues to be on da roll, taking down the first hand with pkt Aces.

[11:22]  Blinds are 400-800, 100 ante and Jeena shoves preflop for 8000 (on my big blind, damnit.)  Everyone folds to Jeremiah under the gun, and he calls with pkt Q's.  "Damnit" from Jeena, showing pkt J's.  No help and Jeena is out in 9th.

[11:33]  Jagu makes it 2400 preflop.  Chess thinks a bit, then folds.  Omar thinks a bit, then folds as well.  Ruby, with a ton of chips, calls.  Flop comes A-rag-rag and Ruby checks.  Jagu goes all in and Ruby insta-calls with A-J against Jagu's A-6.  No help and Jagu is out in 8th.

Not long after, I bet about 4000 (half my stack) with suited A-Q, making Jeremiah think for a bit before he puts me all in with his A-K.  I call, and despite both of our past experiences, the A-Q does not crack the A-K this time and I'm out in 7th, lasting a few hours longer than last week, despite another night of flowing 40's.

Sungina ends up the Bubble Girl for the week, and Jeremiah slips into the 5th spot for the 3 points.  Ruby had a pretty massive chip stack when I left, but only hangs on to the 4th spot and 6 pts.  There's probably a story in there somewhere.  Omar, also with a huge stack for most of the night, ends up in 3rd, while Chester, who like me was down to about 12,000 late in the game, is able to parlay them to a 2nd place finish and 12 pts.  And the winner for the week is Kurt, whose 15 pts is enough to push him into the overall lead for the season, and of course gives him a great start to the 2nd mini-season.

Season 10 - Week 5

BPC Season 10 - Week 5
----------------------

Week 5, the final week in the first mini-season, and just about everyone is in contention for the bonus 250,000 chips that are on the line.  Thanks to Mike, the 40's are flowing and I'm immediately out of contention.  So worth it though... mmmmm, 40's.

Eric was the actual first one out though and within the first few hands played it seems, definitely before his seat was even warm (barring any Taco Mesa induced flatulence of course.)  Not sure what the hand was but from the foul language and intense frustration it induced, I think the whole room knew Judy was involved.

I didn't capture any hands of significant hands of any sort, I was too busy dealing hands, nursing my Mickey's, and laying down monster hands after letting people river out on me, but I hear that there was a straight flush somewhere along the way.  That's always exciting.

And I hear that Padma was on a bit of a run at the final table.  In one hand Sungina raises in late position, getting Padma and another caller.  Flop comes K-J-rag rainbow, and Sunj bets out.  Padma raises and Sunj shoves all in with K-J for top two.  No good against Padma's flopped set of Jacks, and Sungina gives up about 25,000 and is crippled down to 2,000 with 7 players left and blinds at 4-8.  The determined little traveler was able to claw her way back up the proverbial chip mountain and claim 2nd place though, so don't feel too bad for her.  Impressive.

In another hand, Kurt raises pre-flop and gets a smooth call from Padma.  Flop comes 6-7-2 and Kurt moves all-in with 7-8 for top pair.  Padma calls with A-2 (must have been a pocket change call for her) and an Ace hits on the turn.

The results are below.  Padma holds on to her chip lead and takes down first, Sungina pulls out from the gutter for 2nd, Kikoo playing for team SoupOrSalad takes down the bronze, and Kelly takes down 4th.  And Nicole sneaks in for the 5th spot, and the 3 modest points are enough to give her the overall win for the first 5-week mini-season.  For her efforts she will help herself to 250,000 bonus chips at whatever final table she ends up at.  Nicely done!

Season 10 - Week 4

BPC Season 10 - Week 4

[8:46]  Week 4 of the season, and blinds are at 75-150, but just barely.  Another late start again tonight, apparently people are still on holiday time.  We gotta get cards in the air on time people, the games are going way too late (not that I was at the final table or anything, just saying.)

Sunj just took down a big pot from bother O.  Not sure what the hand was, but he's down to about 5000, and she's at about 16,000.  It won't be the low point of Omar's chip stack for the night.

Mike:  "Hey Scott, are you and Jagu always at the same table at the start of the game or what?"
Scott: "Ah man, c'mon, don't start instigating things.  Jagu didn't even notice I was here until you said that, now he's gonna put the hurt locker down on me."
Mike:  "I'm not an instigator man, I just bring the love."

Well ok, since you put it that way.

[8:52]  Jackinthetwins is here, and offers to deal, whoo-hoo!  Always very much appreciated.  She peeks down at my  next two starting hands, which are pretty good, but neither of which hold up and just cost me chips.  But she has the sense to not look at the next one, and of course I win it.  Yes, the 5th dimension does exist.

3 way action with Kurt, Jeff Hall and Arjan in the hand and the flop comes 10h-Jd-2d.  Arjan bets out 3500 on the turn, which comes an Ah.  Jeff Hall shoves all in for 8000, and Kurt insta-calls.  Arjan clocks for a while, but eventually folds his flopped set of 10's.  Kurt shows K-Q for the nut straight, and Hall shows A-J for top two.  River comes a 3s, no help for Jeff and he's sent to the permament dealer spot.

[8:56]  I'm making my way back to the table after visiting the restroom (and thankfully a dry toilette seat this week) and Omar and Mike are in a hand.
Omar:  "You value raised me."
For some reason he finds humor in Mikes bet, so much so that he shoves for the rest of his chips, about 5075.  Pot is about 7000, and Mike has about 6300 left.
Thinks.  Thinks.
Mike:  "This is so sick dude.  Will you show me?"
Omar:  "Mike, you know the answer to that."
Table (in unison):  "Whatever you want me to do."
Thinks a bit more.
Mike:  "K, I fold.  Show me."
Omar:  "Throw your cards into the muck then."

He finally does, and Omar shows K-10 for top pair and 10 kicker.  Mike shows A-K for top pair and bad laydown.  Tough one though, if I remember right, the flop may have been 6-K-6 so you never know.  Strong move by O.

[9:07]  I just donked off about 6000 to Sungina after flopping top 2 pair, and she hits a straight somewhere along the way.  Crap.  Then I look down and see, yes, pkt K's.  I only have about 2500 left, so I don't really have the luxury of listening to my therepist and folding, I need to play it out.  And I'm feeling pretty good about it.  There's some limpers in, and I'm last to act and I shove quickly.  Nice suspicious steam over bet from position, someone's gotta pay me off.  Karrie thinks a bit from the little blind, then pushes all in for about 7000.  Nice, protection.  Everyone else folds and I'm pretty sure she has A-K and I'm way ahead.  Still though, I can't feel THAT good, history and all, and I'm reluctant to show.  Karrie on the other hand, proudly shows off her pkt Aces.  Ouch, what are the odds?  About 1:1 it seems for me.  No worries, this is the new season though right?  Think happy thoughts.  To cut to the chase, a K shows up on the river, and I crack the Aces.  Yippee!  Wish I had more chips though, even with the double up I'm only at 5000.

That's all I got, I donked off the rest off shortly after that, and joined the growing cash game table, playfully experimenting with Pot Limit Omaha.  Pretty cool game so far, but still far from a comfort zone.  Especially when the conversation at the table usually goes something like this:

Mike:  "Good fold Chester."
Chess: "Mike, why you acting like a gay-sian guy named Tuan?"

The final table went forever.  When it was 6 handed and down to the bubble, Nicole was clinging to life with about 3000 left.  Everyone else was pretty healthy, probably over 20K on the low side, but someone went all-in and got a call.  Unfortunately the all-in held up, and Nicole was out pretty shortly after that.

Omar at one point when it was 4 or 5 handed, was down to 2000 chips after losing a big pot to Kurt.  Somehow though, just a few hands later, he was back at 40,000.  Amazing.  The final 5 fought for a long time, and Julius, no longer the monkey with a shotgun, was first to go out in 5th, then Bagu 4th, then Jagu 3rd.  Somewhere along the way, Kurt and Omar were all in with pkt A's and K's respectively, and Omar is on the ropes yet again.  But miraculously, the board ends up a straight, and they chop it.  This was probably the final turning point, and in the end, Omar is able to outlast Kurt, and take down first.

Next week's game will once again be on WEDNESDAY, 1/6.  This should be the last schedule Wednesday game of the season.  The following week however, is a DOUBLE HEADER week, with a game on both Thursday and Friday (1/14 and 1/15.)

Next week is also the last week if the first 5 week mini-season, and its still pretty much anyone's game.  If you win next week, there's a pretty good chance you will claim the 250,000 bonus chips.

Season 10 - Week 3

Week 3 was held on Wednesday, Christmas eve-eve, and was kicked off by a fun little White Elephant gift exchange. I lost all my notes from the night, and most of my brain cells as well, as the cash game went until about 6:00 am the next day and it was already light outside. Actually, the cash game probably went to about 3:00 am, but the rest of the night was spent kicking off the inaugural meeting of the BPC Subcommittee on Finance, Religion, Politics and Foreign Affairs.

What I do remember from the gift exchange though, is that we were about half way through the gifts, and all of the gifts up to that point were all either alcohol or alcohol related. Which not only says something about the club, but has clearly been shown in history to frequently lead to the formation of random subcommittees.

So I'm not left with much to write about, other than to say the Federal Reserve is neither Federal or does it have reserves, is evil and should be dissolved, and has been the single source of the "business cycles" that have caused recessions and depressions, and the continuous transfer of wealth.

That, and a note that we're 3 weeks into the 5-week mini-season, and no one has yet to point more than once. Let's see who the first to do it will be. Whoever it is will likely be the one to capture the 250,000 final table bonus chips.

Season 10 - Week 2

BPC Season 10 - Week 2

"What's the difference between Santa and Tiger Woods?  Santa stops at 3 ho's."  - Cake
Doh.  So that's how Week 2 of the New Season starts... with a giggle.  Just like it should.  Thanks for that Cake.  Speaking of giggle, let's get to the action.

[8:20]  Steven is here after missing last week, brought the pizza (about 4 metric tons of it) and is dealing.  That's a good man there.  So we'll overlook the Q of hearts he mis-dealt and had to burn.  5 people are in the hand, and the flop comes 7-3-4, all hearts naturally.  Jeff the Champ Hall bets out 1500, and Steven raises to 3500.  Ruby calls and Jeff folds.  Turn comes a 2, no heart.  Steven bets out 3000, and Ruby thinks for a bit, then shoves all in.  Steven calls with pkt 10's, one heart, and Ruby shows 8-5 hearts, for the made flush and straight flush draw.  Steven is gonna need some help with another heart that's not the 6.  There's 5 left so there's a chance, and the river comes... rag.  No help, this is the New Season, no bad suckouts, and Steven is the first casulty.  Thankfully being the stand up guy he is, he keeps dealing for us for a while.

[8:37]  Nicole bets out 500 from mid-position and gets 2 callers behind.  She throws out another 1000 after the flop, and is left with just one caller, Potts.  She makes it 3000 after the turn, and Potts has seen enough.
Potts:  "Nice bluff Nicole, I know you didn't have squat."
Nicole: "Oh really?"  (turns over pkt Kings.) Brugh, I got nauseous just typing that.
Potts:  "Thanks, I only said that so you'd show me."

Yeah, I could have done without seeing them.

[8:39]  Not too much later, I'm under the gun and they come... pkt Kings.  Crap.  Muck them, just muck them.  You've already de-friended them on Facebook, and you're accumulating chips nicely, just don't mess with them.  You don't need them, you're a better person without them.  Muck them and don't look back, just like you learned in therapy this week.  So I did, I actually honestly mucked the pkt Kings, and it felt liberating.  Flop comes 9-3-7, and that looks like a pretty good board for pkt Kings, but screw it, its behind me.  Turns out Potts flopped two pair, and I would have been in big trouble.  I think I dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back.  Here's to you New Season!

[9:07]  A few limpers in and the flop comes A-J-9.  Cake checks, Hall bets out 1500, and I call with K-Q hearts.  (There's only one heart on the board.)  Cake thinks for about .4 milliseconds and shoves for 5650.  Hall calls for only 300 more, and I fold like a little school girl.  Cake show A-J for top two, and Hall shows... not really sure he did show, but Cake's hand holds up and we're one champ down.

[9:15]  Damn, I just sat on a wet toilette seat.  Any chance at all that was water?

[9:37]  Flop comes 8-7-6 rainbow with 650 already in the pot.  Check all the way to me in the pre-button position (does that have a name?)  I bet out 3200, and Jeremiah smells a rat an calls.  Jeena thinks, and thinks, and eventually folds.  Turn comes a 4, and I bet out again, and again a call from Jeremiah.  Same deal on the river, which comes a King.  I show my flopped straight and scoop a good chunk of Jeremiah's chips.
Jeena:  "OMG, that was a brilliant play.  By me.  OMG that was just a great freaking play be me.  I had the sucker straight and it came.  OMG that was so good.  Yours was good too Kumo, but mine was friggin brilliant."

Ummm... thanks?

[9:44]  Nicole shoves from mid for 5100, getting a call from Jeremiah who shows pkt Kings.  Wow, there they are again.  Good, maybe they're moving on and will start harrassing someone else.  Hope its not you Jeremiah, but sorry for this hand at least, you're done.  Nicole shows pkt 8's and the flop comes an 8 with no King!!!  Holy crap, Kings lose again!  Turn, river, no King, ship it.  But wait, 4 diamonds on the board?  Ouch, I didn't see that.  Either did Jeremiah, who was already counting the chips to send to Nicole.  But one of his Kings is the diamond, so the pot is his, and Nicole is out.

[9:51]  Jeremiah and Ruby in a hand and the flop comes 7-A-10.  Somebody shoves and gets a quick call.  Ruby shows a flopped a set of 10's.  Nice hand, but not as good as Jeremiah's flopped set of Aces.  Ouch, set over set, that always stings.  Jeremiah is on da roll and is at 25,000 now.

[11:00]  Final table is (in order) Potts, Cake, Jeremiah, Kelly, Jeena, Chess, Chris, Kumo and Omar (dealing.)

[11:23]  Omar is all in with A-K against Chester and a King high flop.  Chester has K-7, and the turn comes another King (how many are there in the deck anyways?)  River comes... yup, a 7.  Ouch, the old 3 outer comes through for Chess, and Omar is sent to the rail.

That's all I got, which is odd because there was still 4 hours of play left since we didn't wrap up until after 3:00 am.  Sleep is overrated.

Here's how it ended:

Reminders:

Remember, the next TWO games are on Wednesday.  Next week, we're playing Wednesday 12/23, the day before Christmas Eve.  The following week we are playing Wednesday 12/30, the day before New Year's Eve.

Also note that the week of 1/14 will be a DOUBLE HEADER week, with the usual game on Thursday 1/14, and a bonus game on Friday 1/15.  Love me the double headers.

Karrie - you were originally down for FOOD next week, but I've updated it to KarrieCake, so you and Cake can work it out.  Either way, the KarrieCake team is up for food on WEDNESDAY.
