Season 14 - Week 10

BPC Season 14 - Week 10
-----------------------

Week 10 was not short of poker excitement and crazy hands.  Too many to call out, but one certainly worth mentioning.  Blinds are 200-400/50 and Chess and Arjan are in a hand on Table 1.  I can hear him over there making a fuss after the flop comes K-10-9 all clubs, and turn comes 3 of clubs.  He gets up, "man I can't believe this, I can't believe I let you catch up."  Yada, yada, you know the routine.  Anyway, he shoves, and Arjan calls, which is exactly what Chess wanted because he's holding A-K with the Ace of clubs for the Ace high flush.  Not the nut flush mind you, because Arjan is holding pkt Q's, including the Q of clubs.

Chess is almost 98% to win, but Arjan does have an out, exactly one, the J of clubs.  You can probably guess where this is going... let's see the river.  Ding!  The Jack of friggin clubs.  The dreaded one outer.  That's very hurtful Arjan.  Chess is going to take the bus and don't expect to see him at the pancake social.

That took most of Chess's chips, but he was still able to hang around until the final table.  He ends up getting his chips in good and an opportunity for a triple up with 2 callers.  Chess is ahead with pkt 9's against Arjan's A-K and Jules' pkt 4's.  Papa-san is dealing, and puts the flop down with the cards stacked on each other, exposing one at a time.  Ace in the window!  And Arjan takes the lead.  Second card... Jack.  Marginal.  Third card... a 4!!!  Julius flops a set and pulls way ahead (87%).  But just to make certain, he went ahead and rivered quads.

And with that, Chester is rail bound and left watching the two players still in who could steal away Mini-Season 2, Slick Rick and Arjan.  Both of them lasted a long time, and play went for a while with no one wanting to go out.  But in the end Slick fell, and Arjan bubbled, with means that Slick and Chess will split the Mini-Season 2 booty.  It also means Fkamiah's Mini-Season record of 44 is safe yet again.

I was able to take down the win, thanks in part to an early double up from Charlie of Team Churl, who called my pre-flop all-in with pkt K's against my pkt Aces.  I've been on the wrong side of that equation far more than my share, and it feels good when a hand actually holds up.  I'm still out of the Top 9, but at least I've finally passed Guest 1.

Karrie of Team KarJackly takes 2nd, her first personal pointing of the season, but the team's 3rd overall, each contributing with one.  With it, they move up from 8th to 4th, passing DerMo, Potts, Arjan and Jeena.

Julius, broken knuckle and all, takes 3rd, and Hee Hall of Team Heemo takes 4th.  Eric was shooting for a league leading 3rd Bubble, but slips instead into the scrappy 5th slot.

Mini-Season 3 starts next week, and we're quickly approaching the half way point!
