BPC Season 10 - Week 15
-----------------------
It was a double header week, and normally I would be very much looking forward to back to back games, but Thursday's game set an all new low for pace of game, and I think we still had a full final table after midnight. The game did not end up wrapping up until after 3:00 am, making for a brutal morning and a long day of work. Come game time on Friday, I find myself with limited success propping up my eyelids with what little chips I have just to see my cards. Tired, so very tired. A couple of points in the night I thought I had some good hole cards, only later to realize I was just seeing double. Such was my night.
I did happen to scrap my way to the final table, but as the short stack with even less chips than Jeena, who made it there without playing a single hand. I'm so jealous of that strategy looking back, I could have had more chips and propped myself up in the corner somewhere for a few blissful moments of sleep.
So this week's color commentary comes from cub reporter Burt Trosey:
"Two guys enter the poker octogon: Kurt K-Large Lohse with 25,000 and Captain Cupcake with 175,000. KLarge rallies to 50,000, then "The Hand." KLarge gets pocket 4's and pushes pre-flop. Cupcake calls with 9-10 off suit, and the flop comes... 9-10-K. 'Oh shit!' Turn comes... 8, no help. River... 4!!!! 'Sweet, sweet two-outer'."
"About 30 minutes later, KLarge just calls with 2-4 off, and Cup checks. Flop comes 2-2-8, both check. Turn comes... 2. KLarge checks, Cup checks and the river comes... A. KLarge bets out 15,000, Cup raises and KLarge shoves all in. The Cup calls with an A, and its all over."
So Cup's run for an unprecedented hat-trick of three wins in a row is cut just short at the finish line. The 2nd place and 12 points is huge for him though. First, he crushes the Mini-Season 3 with 44 points, more than double of what the Mini-Season 1 winner had. And after being in dead last for the first 12 weeks of the season, he is now in 5th place overall! Very impressive Cup. That deal you made with the devil is really working out for you. Have fun in hell.
Kurt's first place is big too, creating some significant separation from the rest of the field, most notably Chess and Potts who blanked last night. The 15 points for first last night put him at 76, a full 12 points ahead of Chester.
Jeremiah follows up the previous game's 2nd place with a 3rd place and 9 points last night, moving him into third overall at 58 points, 18 points behind the lead. And forth place goes to... Arjan! He's on the board with 6 points and nets Eric some of Chester's dough for their last longer side bet. Jeena gets 5th place, and stays in 7th place overall. Rumor has it Bagu was the Bubble Boy, but let me know if it was someone else. For now its going in the books as Bagu.
So with 10 weeks to go and assuming conventional wisdom that 70 points is usually the cutoff for the Top 90, Kurt and Chess are locked in, and Jeremiah pretty much so. (If he blanks the rest of the season, he'll have 68 points which gives him a chance at getting in, but any pointing from here on out pretty much locks it.) The rest of the spots are still wide open, and we're setting up for yet another exciting finish.
10 weeks left, and Mini-Season 4 starts on Thursday. Here's the standings:
